Project Case丨Lintratek High-Performance Fiber Optic Repeater Solved the Signal Dead Zone for Complex Commercial Buildings in Shenzhen City South China

Recently, the Lintratek team took on an exciting challenge:a fiber optic repeater solution creating a fully covered communication network for a new landmark in Shenzhen City near HongKong —integrated commercial complex buildings in the city center.

The Skyscraper in Shenzhen

The commercial complex buildings boast a total construction area of approximately 500,000 square meters and include top-tier office spaces, a luxury five-star hotel, and a shopping center. The project consists of three towers (T1, T2, T3), with the tallest tower, T1, reaching a height of 249.9 meters, featuring 56 floors above ground and 4 underground levels. The total steel usage for the structure amounts to 77,000 tons, equivalent to 1.8 times the steel used in Beijing’s National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest.

The extensive use of steel in the building creates a Faraday cage effect, and the multiple layers of concrete walls block cellular signals from the base stations. As a result, large indoor areas of the commercial complex buildings would be left with significant signal dead zones. To address this problem, mobile signal coverage systems are essential for skyscrapers.

The construction process incorporates advanced technologies such as 5G, AI, AR, and BIM, along with a diverse IoT (Internet of Things) monitoring system on site. Once completed, the project will significantly boost the concentration of people, goods, commerce, capital, and information in the area.

Technical Solution:

Given the challenge of covering such a large area, including 5G frequencies, Lintratek’s technical team implemented a mobile signal relay solution based on a digital fiber optic repeater system (Distributed Antenna System, DAS).

Fiber Optic Repeater Solution

Our solution centers around a rooftop base unit equipped with a log-periodic antenna to efficiently capture the mobile signal from outside. This antenna design maximizes signal reception, providing a solid foundation for signal amplification.

Next, fiber optic repeater remote units were installed on every two floors of the building, connected to the rooftop base unit via fiber optic cables to ensure stable and efficient signal transmission. Additionally, each floor was equipped with 10-20 ceiling-mounted indoor antennas, forming a distributed antenna system (DAS) to precisely cover any signal dead zones.

The Installation of Fiber Optic Repeater

The project covers an area of 500,000 square meters and involves the installation of over 3,100 indoor antennas, 3 digital tri-band (including 5G) fiber optic repeater base units, and 60 10W fiber optic repeater remote units. This setup ensures comprehensive cellular signal coverage throughout the entire indoor space, eliminating all signal dead zones.

Construction Process:

The project is currently in the interior finishing stage, and our team has already begun the low-voltage electrical work. Throughout the construction process, we pay meticulous attention to every detail, ensuring the highest quality of work to achieve optimal signal coverage.

Testing Results:

After the installation was completed, we conducted a comprehensive signal test. The results showed that the signals from all three major carriers reached excellent levels, fully meeting the communication needs of users.

Implementation Outcome:

With the implementation of this system, we not only resolved the signal coverage issue but also enhanced signal quality, allowing users in the building to enjoy a stable and high-speed communication experience. Whether for work or leisure, users can count on uninterrupted connectivity.

The Lintratek technical team, with its professional expertise and extensive engineering experience, successfully addressed the signal coverage challenges of this commercial complex building in downtown Shenzhen City near HongKong. We remain committed to technological innovation, providing professional signal coverage solutions for more high-rise buildings.
